As of May 17th, we can officially go back to museums and galleries, so now seems like a good time to catch up on exhibitions! With many museums and galleries having to delay exhibitions from last year, there is a range on offer over the next few months.

1. The Art of Banksy

The Art of Banksy opens on the 20th of May, the exhibition is an unusual opportunity to see a wide collection of street artist Banksy’s most well-known works. Banksy is an anonymous artist whose street art often provides a political commentary on current affairs. Interestingly the exhibition has no authorisation by Banksy himself and is composed entirely of works from private collectors.

2. Naturally Brilliant Colour

Open from the 17th of May till the 26th of September, Kew Gardens has curated an exhibition centred around structural colour. Structural colour is typically naturally occurring, where the colour is created through microscopic structures which reflect light in unique ways to generate a colour. This is how hummingbirds and butterfly achieve their beautiful iridescent colours. The exhibition presents artificially made structural colour and prototypes of how they can be used in art and fashion, as well as the evolution of colour and how it manifests in nature. This exhibition is not to be missed as it presents an opportunity to experience colour in a whole new way!

3. The Wildlife photographer of the year

The Natural History Museum host the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition every year and it never disappoints. In its 56th year, the exhibition features some of the best wildlife photographers from across the world! The exhibition is great for those who miss travelling and want to immerse themselves in the natural work in the form of stunning photographs. Each image is accompanied by a caption from the photographer telling the story behind their image. The exhibition runs from the 17th of May to the 1st of August.

4. Drawing Biennial 2021

Located locally at the Drawing Room is holding a drawing biennial of 300 works showing how artists are working with drawing. The exhibition is a great showcase of different drawing styles, providing insight into various techniques. The wide range of artist showcased mean there something for everyone to learn, showing that drawing is still a vibrant and relevant medium for art today! At the end of the exhibition, the drawings will be auctioned off, making it a great opportunity to invest in some emerging artists work. The exhibition will run from the 21st May to 5th July 2021.
